With summer fast approaching and temperatures already on the rise, people are spending more time outside "soaking up the sun" and enjoying the beauty of nature. But besides a need for sunscreen, there are other considerations to healthy, radiant skin. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) offers the following tips:
1. Use Your Sunscreen
According to the CDC "ultraviolet radiation (UV) from the sun tends to be stronger during the summer months". As a result, with more people spending more hours under direct exposure, the need for sunscreen is even greater.
Says the CDC, "Exposure to UV rays appears to the most important environmental factor in developing skin cancer." So it's critical that you take skin care seriously - not just on your arms and shoulders, but on your face as well. Consider using foundations and moisturizers with sun protection of at least SPF 15. The Body Shop Flawless Skin Protecting Foundation is formulated with SPF 25, and comes in different shades to match your skin tone.

Just a few spritzes of insect repellent could mean the difference between healthy happy skin, and hospitalization. Cases of West Nile and Lyme Disease are more common this time of year.
The CDC indicates that West Nile virus is passed to humans from infected mosquitoes. "Mosquitoes are most active at dusk and dawn." Long sleeves and indoor activities during peak exposure times can reduce your risk of infection.
For animal lovers, the CDC recommends "to check both you and your animal for ticks before you go inside." And always use an EPA-approved repellent.
3. Scrub up!
"Wash your face with soap or mild cleanser and water in the morning, evening, and after exercising." Cleansers clear your pores, and help prevent oil and dirt build up, which leads to acne. Use a cleanser that's right for your skin type. Skin that's oily may do well with a more astringent cleanser, like tea tree oil. Sensitive or dry skin needs something more gentle, like a soothing aloe vera or vitamin E infused cleanser to help nourish and protect the skin, too.
Follow your mother's advice and wash your hands before and after activities. Hand sanitizing/washing regularly will reduce the transmission of germs, colds and infections. Shower off after swimming to clear your skin of salt and pool chemicals.
With these 3 simple steps, your skin will be more radiant, healthy and glowing. Plus, by reducing the chance of infection, skin cancer and other skin disorders, your skin will be glowing for years to come.
